Alistair McGowan Top of the Bill for Comedy Wood
Headline act comedian and actor Alistair McGowan planted the first tree in Comedy Wood, a new woodland in The National Forest, outside Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire, this week.
Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival has worked with the National Forest Company to raise funds to create this new woodland....

Alice Oswald's 'Memorial', war and the modernity of the rural
It's often implied, in our multi-riven country, that to live in a town or a city is 'modern' and to live elsewhere, isn't. Quite what's meant by this isn't always clear to me, but away from the urban, life is apparently traditional, a refuge from the hustle and bustle; it's not where innovation is expected to happen, that's for sure.

An unfamiliar cry rang out in The National Forest recently. It was the start of the One Tree project that will culminate at the National Forest Wood Fair in August, telling the story of how and why woodlands are managed.

Organisers of the National Forest Wood Fair are keen to make contact with woodworkers and craftspeople who love wood, with a view to attending this, the only wood fair in the Midlands.
