Summary

A visit to the 1620s House and Gardens in Donington Le Heath is a journey through 600 years of life in Leicestershire. The extensive 17th-century style gardens are well-stocked with labelled plants, fruit trees and herbs. Follow the garden guide for detailed information or let the children lead the way along the children’s trails and through the maze. The adjacent Donington le Heath woodlands were created at the beginning of 2000s by Leicestershire County Council. The 5-acre site is a wonderful wildlife habitat and a lovely place to explore if you want a longer walk.

Donington Le Heath manor house is a rare surviving example of a family home built in the 13th century and then modernised in 1618. Learn about the families who have lived there, from Elizabeth I and James I and discover how their lives were entwined with shocking events like the Gunpower plot.

The programme of special events throughout the year has something for all the family, including dramatic re-enactments and demonstrations, musical recitals, craft workshops, Easter-egg hunts, plant sales and themed afternoon teas.

Highlights
