Summary
Home Farm is set in picturesque Charnwood Forest, within the National Forest. Part of the Paget Estate, the 270 acres of grassland have been farmed organically for more than 20 years. Home Farm welcomes visitors on special event days and for a growing programme of courses, as well as pre-booked school groups but is not open for access at other times.
Courses change throughout the year – including bee keeping and crafts like wet felting, needle felting and drop spindle. Check their website for details of the latest courses being run.
Although predominantly a beef and sheep farm, Home Farm is also residence to a flock of hens for organic egg production, bees and a collection of native rare breed sheep and goats. As well as livestock, the farm is home to a vast array of wildlife.
Woodpeckers flit noisily between pockets of woodland while flocks of goldfinches enjoy the seed heads of weeds and wildflowers. In the spring, the woodland floor is carpeted by bluebells and in the summer, swallows and house martins can be seen. At night, the bats and badgers come out to feed.
