Summary
On the edge of Albert Village is a 19-hectare woodland dedicated to the memory of Diana, Princess of Wales. The land was donated by Hepworth plc and fundraising for the planting was spearheaded by the then Alliance and Leicester Building Society.
The wood is planted with predominantly native trees and shrubs but individual species are significant in their link to the work of the Princess of Wales. The Peace Glade contains three Bosnian Pines representing the Princess’s work with the land mine clearance campaign in Bosnia, while the Children’s Glade signifies her charity work with children. A touch trail includes species with soft, colourful and fragrant or unusual foliage. The metal rose arches were designed by Chris Camble and represent the Princess’s place as ‘England’s Rose’.
