Summary

Gresley Wood covers a 46-hectare site, owned by the Forestry Commission, on land with a history of farming and open cast mining. Situated on the edge of Church Gresley, with public access, the wood is being used in some areas to examine the success of planting techniques on former poor-quality farmland. This includes looking at how best to create a new native woodland, the effect of different tree spacing on growth and shape, and the effect of different ground preparation for planting. Hepworth plc planted a new woodland around the demonstration plot in 1995. Gresley Wood is located close to our own Diana, Princess of Wales memorial woodland.
