Summary
Nature Alive is a small urban nature park, located in Coalville between the ring road and railway line, a green oasis and thriving habitat. Formerly a coal stocking yard for Snibston Colliery, the site has a number of ponds, scrub and grassland, with the largest pond being created by mining subsidence. Nature Alive has a large population of great crested newts, a protected species that has declined greatly in the UK in recent years due to the loss of suitable habitat. The ponds also support smooth newts, common toads, common frogs and numerous other aquatic invertebrates such as dragonfly larvae and water beetles. The woodland mix includes common alder, white birch, common ash, grey poplar, Corsican pine and oak. Nature Alive sits alongside Coalville Adventure Park.
